As coaches, we hold space for others to grow. But who’s holding space for us?
One thing I’ve learned over the last 19 years: Good coaches are good at self-coaching. It’s how we stay grounded, aligned, and able to show up for our clients.
4 Self-Coaching Techniques to Use Regularly:
- The Check-In Question:
- Ask yourself: “What’s going on for me right now?”
- Get curious, not judgmental. Awareness is step one.
- Thought Reframe Exercise:
- Identify a negative thought (e.g., “I’m not good enough”). Challenge it:
- “What evidence supports this thought? What evidence proves it wrong?”
- Identify a negative thought (e.g., “I’m not good enough”). Challenge it:
- Vision Alignment Journaling:
- Every week, reflect: “Are my actions aligned with the coach I want to be?”
- Self-Compassion Pause:
- When you mess up, pause and say: “I’m learning, and that’s okay.” Treat yourself like you’d treat your favorite client.
Your clients deserve the best version of you. Self-coaching helps you show up as that version.
