As coaches, we hold space for others to grow. But who’s holding space for us?

One thing I’ve learned over the last 19 years: Good coaches are good at self-coaching. It’s how we stay grounded, aligned, and able to show up for our clients.

4 Self-Coaching Techniques to Use Regularly:

  1. The Check-In Question:
    • Ask yourself: “What’s going on for me right now?”
    • Get curious, not judgmental. Awareness is step one.
  2. Thought Reframe Exercise:
    • Identify a negative thought (e.g., “I’m not good enough”). Challenge it:
      • “What evidence supports this thought? What evidence proves it wrong?”
  3. Vision Alignment Journaling:
    • Every week, reflect: “Are my actions aligned with the coach I want to be?”
  4. Self-Compassion Pause:
    • When you mess up, pause and say: “I’m learning, and that’s okay.” Treat yourself like you’d treat your favorite client.

Your clients deserve the best version of you. Self-coaching helps you show up as that version.
